Sitting in the UK with my bags packed and ready to fly to the Maldives to become an Open Water Scuba Instructor and I get an email to say my course had been cancelled. As you could imagine I was devastated. I immediately contacted Dive DownBelow about their IDC internship programme and I was in luck…. They had a course starting the following week. The quick and efficient communication from the office was amazing and with in 48 hours of receiving the news about the Maldives I had booked with Dive DownBelow and changed my flights. 5 days later I arrived in the city of Kota Kinabalu to start my training. The programme was for 1 months. Dive DB organised everything. A comfortable hotel to stay which is central to the city with everything close by for convenience, a mini van pick up everyday to and from the island or classroom. The dive centre which is positioned in its own private bay on Gaya island is gorgeous, so relaxing and a great place to escape the busy city in the day time. Providing everything you need for the day. Tea, coffee, water, fruit, lunch and a good atmosphere. The team on the island are amazing so friendly, helpful and always smiling. During the training we spent a lot of our time in the classroom which is in the main office in KK time square. The classroom is a very comfortable place to learn and the office staff are very polite and friendly to. All the equipment, from diving equipment to the classroom equipment are all of good standard. Richard our course director is a very experienced diver, instructor and course director and provided the best training and insight of being an PADI pro. He has created the perfect environment for you to learn and train in. Paul Jones who is a staff instructor was involved in my training. He also is an experienced diver and trainer. Paul has a lot of patience and takes his time to explain each topic. Every single member of staff has a passion for diving and their job. The dive centre actively looks after the local environment and closely works alongside projectaware.com. Which in turn has encouraged me more to be actively involved too. I am now a confident PADI Pro Open Water Scuba Instructor thanks to Dive DownBelow and that’s why it was the best impulsive decision I have ever made. Thank you Dive DB and see you soon.
