Downbelow’s local Go PRO internship candidates receive marine conservation practise on Work4aCareer program – and gain a deeper appreciation for our local environment!
Work4aCareer is a Downbelow-created 1-year program to offer an opportunity to the local Kota Kinabalu community to become a professional diver! In that year, local candidates work within our dive operations whilst climbing the ladder of the PADI system of diver education. Their experience in scuba diving starts with the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program, all the way until the first professional qualification: PADI Divemaster!
In one year, they also receive plenty of real diver experience to observe the smooth running of a dive operations, such as our highly successful ‘Ghost Net’ removal dives to protect and preserve our marine environment. It is invaluable for our local interns to join these dives and witness and contribute for themselves to one of Project AWARE’s major causes – marine debris.
When Expedition Borneo or schools and university groups visit, beach and underwater clean ups are arranged by our island staff team, which is great for building their confidence as they inspire others!
