I went to Sabah to undertake my Instructor Development Course (IDC) with Downbelow in June 2011. My plans changed dramatically as I lost my job so I initally decided to go elsewhere for my IDC where the date was closer. I let Downbelow know and they were very understanding and put an amazing custom package together for me at such a good price for a 4 month period. The Downbelow base camp on Gaya Island is one of only a few in the KK area where they have a private base to call ‘home’ and where all the guests can relax at ease knowing they are in a private, secure location. The dive centre is located in a pretty bay with alot of wildlife around (monkeys, lizards) and the shallow water provides the perfect learning environment. The IDC was well ran and I am glad I chose Downbelow. Richard is a very experienced Course Director and I felt 100% prepared to pass the Instructor Exam, which I did. I then completed 8 specialities and again, the training was top notch and I feel I am well prepared to impart this knowledge to my future students. I really do recommend Downbelow for all diving education, but especially the Go PRO courses. The location is perfect, 10 mins speed boat ride from KK city. KK is cheap, fun and friendly and it is a perfect place to stay for an extended time – dont get bored on an island for a couple of months – live the city life at night and the beach life by day. Add to this the amazing local staff and you really have a perfect place! The diving is sweet too!
