Teaching entry-level divers with the method of ‘Show and Tell’ works – for PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) too!
PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Cindy briefs his student divers on our Downbelow-created 1-day Try Dive PADI Scuba Diver program with the techniques of instruction he became accustomed to from his very own PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC)!
Explaining basics of dive theory will be an alien concept to some students, so to offer more perception, illustrating the knowledge is always more effective when it’s given an obvious value. For example, Cindy discusses the pressure increased in depth of water. Just to explain it this way is somewhat ‘cold’, and it’s difficult for the student to relate it to them! Instructors need to provide their students a value for committing that information to their memory…at least for the day of their program!
Just as with our climbing Mount Kinabalu packages, we show our clients the journey through video! On a Downbelow-sponsored familiarity trip, our HQ staff recorded on a GoPro Hero camera of the whole process from Kota Kinabalu city centre to the Low’s Peak summit, and the worlds highest via Ferrata too! Many of our Go PRO interns are spurred by seeing the experience on video and decide on adding an extra itinerary to their professional scuba diving internship!
